95 Ford e250 Trans Problem
« on: March 08, 2012, 07:56:46 AM »
Hello. I have a 95 ford van e250 with a 4.9 engine amd a e4od trans. Truck has only 70k miles. Trans was rebuilt at 60k. No check engine light on. I bought the truck two months ago.Trans shifted fine.only trouble was after starting in morning shifting into reverse truck would stall.  Not going foward. After short warmup problem gone.  NOW coming to a stop in foward gears  truck will stall, like a stick shift and you forgot to engage the clutch. Starts up right away. If you put trans in neutral before stopping no stalling. Any ideas?  thanks Ofert

After talking to a few trans shops, and getting prices of $1800.to $3300, found a cooler line a little loose.Leaked at idle in reverse. Hard to get a true reading on the stick.Put two quarts in ,Fixed the line, and trans works 100%,hot and cold in all gears. Going on vacation with my $3300 bucks.

Don't be so quick on the vaca. Sounds like you have a fluid contamination issue. The lockup solinoid is probably sticking. spend $50 on merc V fluid and filter kit. Drop the pan and change the filter. Rotate the engine by hand until the drain for the torque converter appears in the inspection hole. Remove the plug and let drain. flush the cooler lines. If you do not have an auxillary cooler GET ONE. Refill the fluid drive 5 miles and recheck. Add or remove fluid as needed.

E4OD stands for "E"very "40" "D"ays if not properly maintained.
